Find the Moment to Heal — Jill Sitnick

A short guided experience

Find the Moment
to Heal

You know you have patterns you don’t like. This experience helps you find where one of them started.

Most people understand their patterns. They’ve named them, tracked them, maybe spent years in therapy working on them. What most people haven’t done is go back to the specific moment where the pattern was created.

That’s what this experience helps you find.

Step 1 of 4

Pick one reaction you don’t understand about yourself.

Not the biggest thing. Not the most complicated. Just one reaction that still surprises you — where part of you thinks: that response doesn’t fit the situation.

I shut down or go completely quiet when someone criticizes me
I overreact when someone raises their voice — even slightly
I work much harder than I need to, trying to prove I’m enough
I say yes when I want to say no — and then resent it
I spiral when things feel out of my control
I pull away from people right when I need them most

Step 2 of 4

Your body already knows something about this.

Before we go anywhere else, stay with this reaction for a moment. Don’t analyze it. Just notice it.

When this reaction happens — where do you feel it first?

Chest or throat — tightening, closing off
Stomach — dropping, clenching, turning
Shoulders or jaw — bracing, holding
Head — going foggy, or thoughts suddenly racing
Nowhere specific — I just go numb or want to disappear

That physical signal is not just stress. It’s your nervous system doing exactly what it learned to do — a long time ago, in a moment that felt just like this one.

Step 3 of 4

Let’s trace it back.

You don’t have to find the very first time this ever happened. Just let a memory come forward — any time you felt this same feeling. It doesn’t have to be dramatic. It just has to feel familiar.

Close your eyes for a moment if that helps. Let your body lead. Where does it take you?

You don’t need to write the whole story. A few words is enough.

Step 4 of 4

You just found it.

The reaction you named

That memory you just wrote down? That’s not a random association. That’s a breadcrumb. Your body led you back to a moment where a younger version of you didn’t have the capacity to fully process what was happening.

Your nervous system made a decision in that moment — a survival decision. And it has been running that decision as instructions ever since, every time something reminds it of that moment.

That’s not a flaw. That’s not a character trait. That’s a moment that isn’t finished yet.

Most healing approaches work on the pattern — the behavior, the belief, the coping strategy. The Heal the Moment Method goes back to the moment where the instructions were written. And updates them.

You’re not broken. You’re unfinished.

You made it through

That was the beginning of the P.A.U.S.E. process.

What you just did — pausing, noticing your body, tracing back to a memory — that’s the first part of a structured five-step method for going back to the origin of a pattern and completing it.

There’s more to it. The deeper steps are where the update actually happens. And they work best with someone who knows how to guide them.

What this work actually is

“I spent most of my life thinking I wasn’t whole. That I functioned differently from everyone else. I had no idea the things I did that I didn’t like all came from specific moments that could actually be healed.”
